Houston Hobby Can Academy Students Spend MLK Day Volunteering

Beside the fact that it is a school holiday, the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday is a day students covet to remember the birthday and influence of Martin Luther King, Jr. The students of Houston Can Academy had the day off from their classes, however they chose to come together for a cause to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who never stopped asking the question, “What are you doing for others?”

On Monday, January 18 students of Houston Can Academy met at their school for an MLK Day of Service. Houston Hobby’s Student Council started the day at 7:15 a.m. by representing their school in Houston’s MLK Parade. The students then went to the Houston Hobby campus and, with the help of their teachers, started to work on a project to make their school more beautiful.

The group of students and teachers worked for four hours to paint all of the school’s benches and outdoor picnic tables. There are plans for more volunteer days to continue with the school’s new beautification project.
