HandUp Global Goods, a Montgomery County-based nonprofit organization that seeks to eliminate a life of handouts for teens transitioning out of orphanages, is hosting its second annual Bringin’ It Home fundraising concert on Thursday, October 26. Houston-born Texas country singer Cory Morrow will headline this event, which will take at Dosey Doe’s Big Barn, 25911 Intestate 45 in The Woodlands.
Natul Middlebrook, executive director at HUGG, also announced that – thanks to a generous “angel investor” – every dollar raised at the event will be doubled.
“This is exciting news for HandUp. Our original goal was to raise $60,000, which after our “angel’s” dollar-for-dollar matching would become $120,000,” said Middlebrook. “This will enable us to expand our reach to help even more at-risk youths who enter our programs.”
Other sponsors for the event include B&A Farms, Cerner Corporation, L2 Engineering, Emerus, ReMax/Jeff Morris, Northwestern Mutual/Jamie Sharples, and Blackmon Mooring. “It takes the local community coming together to give a HandUp to the developing world. Thanks to our angel investor and these other wonderful philanthropists, doors are opening for more teens in transition and more job creation is happening for Haitian people,” said Middlebrook.
Later this year, HandUp will bring into its artisan program ten more teens that have aged out of their partner orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. “The additional contributions from our angel investor will dramatically boost our impact on the lives of these young teens. It allows us to fully integrate them into our holistic programming by providing jobs, spiritual discipleship, financial literacy, and vocational training.”
