Only a couple of months into the job, and Melanie Pruett knows that joining the Texas State Technical College family was a great career move.

The Mesquite, Texas native is TSTC’s newest Enrollment Specialist in Fort Bend County. She comes to the college with extensive work experience.

“This opportunity came at the right time,” said Pruett. “I was coming from a layoff and I was ready to work in higher education again.”

For 17 years, Pruett worked at the Baylor University College of Medicine as a file clerk. Later, she took a position with a company in the oil and gas field as a documentation specialist. She was there for 11 years before being laid off because of the downturn in the industry.

“I applied for several positions within TSTC,” said Pruett. “Call me old-fashioned, but I not only applied online, I also dropped off resumes at the campus.”

Pruett said being offered a position at the college brought relief and excitement.

“I had a job again and not just any job, I was going to be a part of something big,” said Pruett.

The enrollment specialist said there was a need for a technical college like TSTC in the Fort Bend area and she is excited to help grow the college from the ground up. The new TSTC campus opens in August 2016.

Pruett describes herself as very customer service-orientated and said it comes natural because she loves talking with people.

“I’m so excited to help students begin a college career,” said Pruett. “I can’t wait to help them along the way and see their dream of a college degree come true.”

When Pruett is not in the office she is spending time with her husband, she got married in October, and with her two sons. She also enjoys listening to live music, hosting family and friends at her home and spending time at the gym.

“I’m just really excited to be where I am,” said Pruett. “I hope students take advantage of TSTC being in our area and of the scholarships we’re offering all new students.”

The first 500 students to enroll at TSTC in Fort Bend County will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help with the cost of tuition for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017.

TSTC in Fort Bend County will offer seven programs when the new campus opens this coming fall.  For more information on programs and scholarships at TSTC in Fort Bend County call 832-535-4058.
