Texans Can Academies Counts Down To New School Year With Uniform Drive

Texans Can Academies, a non-profit school system serving students who have struggled in a traditional high school setting, is sponsoring a back-to-school drive, Countdown to Class, for their students who need assistance getting ready for the upcoming school year. As students are gearing up for the school year, some are struggling with finding ways to afford new clothes or school supplies. According to the 2018 National Retail Federation survey, families spend an average of $685 per household to get their children ready for the new school year. Texans Can Academies wants to help students not worry about basic necessities and ensure they have the materials and confidence needed while receiving a high quality education.

From now until the first day of school on August 12, Texans Can Academies is hosting their annual Countdown to Class 2019 Uniform Drive to raise funds that will benefit students at their 14 campuses across the state of Texas. The open-enrollment public charter high school has campuses located in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio. The funds from the drive will benefit students and their families by providing brand new clothes that fit properly to wear as the school’s uniform of khaki pants and white collared shirts. A $75 donation will provide one pair of pants, two shirts, socks and a belt for one student.

“Many families do not have the cost of clothes and school supplies available in their budgets and face challenges in having the materials needed,” said Richard Marquez, President and CEO of Texans Can Academies. “Our goal is to support our students in any way we can to ensure they receive a quality education and earn their high school diploma.”

Texans Can Academies strives to provide the highest quality education to all students and prepare them with the skills needed to succeed after graduation. Programs such as Marquez Reading and Feuerstein’s Instrumental Enrichment are implemented into the classrooms at all of the campuses to address special education needs for the success of all students. To address the wellbeing of students, Texans Can Academies provides breakfast and lunch free to all enrolled students, child care, eye exams, a 24-hour, seven days a week counseling program, among many other things.

Texans Can Academies graduate thinkers and offer students, aged 14 to 21, who have struggled in a traditional high school setting a second chance at earning their high school diploma instead of a General Education Development (GED). Texans Can Academies are a unique network of 14 charter schools located in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio. The schools are tuition-free, open enrollment, public high schools of choice. For more information, please visit www.texanscan.org
